AKC | CKC | FCI | KC
A.K.C. - American Kennel Club. The AKC is the national kennel organization of the USA. It was founded in 1884.
Initially AKC followed precedents set in England. Today the club is an independently important voice in the canine world.
The AKC organization presently recognizes close to 150 different breeds and varieties, a handful of which are breeds originating in America.

C.K.C. - Canadian Kennel Club. The CKC is the national kennel organization of Canada. The club was founded in 1888.
Although Canada has vital interaction with its neighbour to the south the CKC is itself an important voice in the canine world.
The CKC currently recognizes over 160 different breeds and varieties, a few more than the American Kennel Club.
(Note. The abbreviation CKC is also used by the American organization Continental Kennel Club. When the abbreviation CKC is used on this site it is as the abbreviation of The Canadian Kennel Club only.)

F.C.I. - Fédération Cynologique Internationale. The FCI was founded in 1911 and today spans national kennel organizations the world over. Countries from Europe, Africa, Asia, North America, South America and the Caribbean as well as Australia and New Zealand are members or affiliate members of the FCI.
The FCI organization presently recognizes over 370 different breeds and varieties, while the official canine organizations in some of its member countries recognize even more breeds.

K.C. - The Kennel Club. The Kennel Club is the oldest among national kennel clubs and was founded in England in 1873. Over the years The Kennel Club has played a very influential role in the canine world.
The KC organization presently recognizes close to 200 different breeds and varieties many of which originated on the British Isles or within the Commonwealth.
